In the spring of 2000, Jeff Rosenfield, a lifelong musician and advertising executive, and his wife, Norma, were given the devastating news that their 2-1/2-year-old son, had autism. On that day, their lives changed forever. Since then, Jeff has been intensely focused on caring for his son, managing his educational programs, therapies, doctor visits and in-home behavioral programs. Norma has continued her successful practice as a public relations consultant.
As Jeff found himself sitting in waiting rooms and in freeway traffic, he started noticing that current music did not bring him the inspiration and satisfaction that music always had in the past. Following the news of the sea changes in the record industry led Jeff to an idea for a different kind of record label – created for a specific group of people, with a specific purpose in mind.
That idea has become Moonstruck Records, a label that celebrates the excitement of musical discovery while striving to improve the lives of others. Moonstruck Records donates proceeds from every CD sold to organizations that work to improve the lives of those with developmental disabilities.
Moonstruck Records offers unique compilations to a targeted audience (primarily baby boomers who crave satisfying music but just can’t find it), which include some of the most daring tracks from a variety of well-known artists, along with artists who you’ll want to know better. Jeff and his music industry colleagues seek out the finest musicians, many on the periphery of their art, whose work brings unique insight and an incisive quality to the genres they represent.
In addition to donating proceeds from every CD Moonstruck Records ever releases, Moonstruck Records is proud to present Can Be Heard, a sampler CD, which will benefit the Cure Autism Now Foundation (CAN). For this release, Moonstruck Records is donating every penny from the sale of this CD to CAN.
“Moonstruck Records is on a journey to become a brand which represents fascination, excellence, creativity, intelligence, eclecticism, uniqueness and soul,” said Rosenfield. “We exist to provide people with collections of fascinating music from excellent, and sometimes, not widely known artists. Our goal is to bring the excitement of musical discovery to our listeners and, in doing so, also help improve the lives of others.”
Today, at the age of seven, their son continues to work hard and make steady progress with his therapeutic programs. Jeff and Norma remain in awe of their son’s uniqueness, including his uncanny musical abilities, his memory, and love of reading, his emerging sense of humor, his incredible intelligence and his ability to show deep love and an unwavering connection to his family.
